How effective is Biotek Shield?

A.

It is the most effective way to clean the air in aircraft cabins. It neutralizes 99.9999% of the virus. This is far beyond the capability of other current virus neutralizing agents. Lower level processes result in the virus being left behind after treatment.

What is 99.9999% virus neutralization? Isn’t 99% good enough?

A.

No, 99% is just not enough protection. The only way to neutralize virtually every virus cell is at the LOG 6 level. The LOG scale below shows how potent a cleaning method must be, in order to prevent the virus from creating an infection. A 99% “treatment" leaves behind 10,000 cells that are still able to infect a host. That’s all you can expect from a HEPA filter. No one wants to sit in any environment with 10,000 active and untreated viruses.

Why is the virus only “neutralized” and not “killed”?

A.

Since a virus is not alive, you can not kill a virus. You can only neutralize it to render it unable to infect a human host. Since all viruses have similar makeup, the Biotek Shield product works on COVID-19 virus and any new virus yet to be discovered.

How does Biotek Shield clean the air?

A.

UVC light is used to continuously neutralize pathogens from the cabin air before takeoff, during flight and after landing. This is the same technology used to clean hospital operating rooms.

Where is Biotek Shield installed?

A.

It is installed into the existing air conditioning system of commercial aircraft – without alteration to the system. The initial installation is usually completed in four hours or less per aircraft.

Does it produce a smell or leave a residue?

No. The device does not produce any odor or leave a residue.

Does it cause extra noise or vibration?

How safe is Biotek Shield?

A.

It is completely safe for all passengers and crew as it is contained within the interior air conditioning duct work of the aircraft. Passengers and crew will never see it or come in direct contact with the device.

Does it only clean new air into the cabin?

A.

It cleans new air that enters the cabin, as well as existing air that is recirculated. As air is brought into the aircraft, it enters the air conditioning system and is immediately cleared of any active viruses. As air circulates through the cabin and back into the ductwork, it is automatically cleared of active viruses again.

How is it better than a HEPA filter?

A.

HEPA filters are often installed on commercial aircraft. They are not effective in neutralizing COVID-19 or any other virus. HEPA filters have a LOG 2 rating – leaving 10,000 viruses untreated. Biotek Shield neutralizes all viruses, leaving the air truly clean. HEPA filters are designed to filter larger cells like pollens and hair particles from the air. Smaller cells like virus cells can easily pass through a HEPA filter and circulate into the cabin. Physical filters can trap some small molecules, but not enough to ensure truly safe travel.
